The world as we all know it has ended...brokencity_rp
Mutants have been around for years, and for a while, they were accepted members of society. Simple products of evolution, certain people were born with gifts that normal humans couldn't begin to fathom being able to accomplish. Most joked about the idea of superheroes and described these abilities as "powers" on the streets. Some, of course, didn't trust this advantage. Regardless, it wasn't abnormal to see somebody on the street corner cooling their glass of lemonade with their hands, or a shop owner doing the work of three men all with his mind. They were your brothers, your sisters, your neighbors, your teachers... They existed, and everyone knew it. America was prospering, life was content for most, and the economy continued to grow.
Then disaster struck. America became too comfortable with their place as top dog. They became a bullying country, certain that nothing bad would befall them. On the evening of April 05, 2009, a cybernetic attack on the United States took place, wiping out every computer system in the country, and taking over those belonging to the military. Our own bombs attacked us, the economy crashed overnight, and within days America went from super power to third world country. The rich suddenly found themselves dirt poor when the computers recording their monetary earnings erased every cent; business after business went bankrupt. Soon crime was on the rise, and people had to jump through hoops to survive. In the wake of the destruction, a scape goat was needed.
They blamed mutants. People that used to dine with their mutant neighbor soon started to attack them. Murders became the norm, and with as much chaos as there was, most went ignored. The bad economy made way for crooked cops, the rise of gangs and mafias, and, of course, every scumbag looking for a pay day to run rampant. The U.S. government, determined to build an army and get revenge, and the resources for the most powerful army was just staring them in the face. They began abducting mutants off of the streets to bring them back to a secret division known as Operation X to perform experiments on them. They were looking for ways to boost powers, but more importantly, they needed a way to control the mutants they captured. The danger was fierce, so those with powers took a variety of measures to escape persecution. Some denied what they truly were and attempted to live their lives in the new world as normal humans, hoping to never slip up in front of the wrong person. Others banded together and hid in a mostly ruined part of the country that used to be Manhattan that is rumored to be haunted, radioactive, and all other sorts of crazy superstitions (most created by the mutants living there to keep normal humans away). Still others thrived in the new dog-eat-dog world, using their powers to swindle people out of their money.
In 2020, it gets worse. All things prior to 2009 have been eradicated from the computers, but the country slowly starts to rebuild. Eventually, people start to figure out how to survive almost normally. Computers are relied upon less, new jobs are created to take the place of robotics, and people have figured out ways to cut corners due to the shortages of items at different times--and gas at all times. Used to this way of life, people become ignorant to the allocation of funds to Operation X, which has used ten years to develop a method of brainwash that has so far proven foolproof. Each expendable test subject brings them a step closer to creating the power boosters, and an even darker world lay on the horizon for the ostracized mutants as their friends disappear--and sometimes reappear as their enemies. It forces most to head for the Broken City, as dubbed by those who founded it, a mostly underground city that looks worse than the world surrounding it but works enough to keep them alive.
[01.] Applications are to be filled out and e-mailed to the mods at brokencitymods@gmail.com.
[02.] Original Characters are the only characters accepted. This game is a sort've mesh up of Dark Angel and X-Men premises, however, characters from those fandoms are not allowed.
[03.] Drama amongst characters is encouraged. It’s life, so drama is to be expected. HOWEVER! Drama amongst muns that interferes with the game is not acceptable. If the drama escalates to the point that I have to get involved several times, the muns involved will be asked to leave (both or just one, depending on the circumstances).
[04.] DO NOT assume things about another person’s character without first speaking with the character’s mun. This tends to start unnecessary drama. THIS MEANS NO GODMODDING UNLESS THE CHARACTER IS NOT BEING PLAYED, and if that is the case ask the mods for permission FIRST.
[05.] OOC Board is for communication with the entire role play only. Complaining, problems with another character, and non-role play related things (to an extent) should be brought up with the mods first. This includes Drama!
[06.] NC-17 postings are allowed, though they must be marked as such. If you don’t feel comfortable playing out an act such as that but feel that it’s the natural course between your character and another character, RP out as much as you feel comfortable and then end with “Fade to Black”. This let’s us imagine what happens next, and you don’t have to do something you’re not comfortable doing. Additionally, as younger OC's come into play, please note that any character under the age of 16 may not be involved in sexual logs, threads, or actions of any kind. Having said that, all players in this game must be the age of eighteen or older. If we find out that you are younger than eighteen after you've been accepted into the game, you will be asked to leave.
[07.] Please update at least once every two weeks. If you have a problem (death in the family, going on vacation, etc) and will not be able to update, please get in contact with one of the Mods and we'll be glad to tweak this rule for you.
[08.] Please try to choose a pb that fits the characters age. Please don't choose someone like Tom Cruise or Demi Moore to play a 15 year old. They'd be more apt for older characters. On the same note, don't use Hilary Duff for a thirty-year-old. She's far too young.
[09.] AIM is preferred but not required. That's the easiest way to get in touch with any of us.
[10.] Play to your character's age! A fifteen year old is not going to have full control of his or her powers.
[11.] The maximum number of characters allowed PER PERSON is five.
[12.] Don't be afraid to make suggestions to the mods! We're humans, too. We can't think of everything, and because of this we might not see a problem with something that you see. We promise we don't bite.
[13.] In character play gets posted to brokencity_ic, Out of Character messages get posted to brokencity_ooc, and the friend all button can be found here (it's Friends Only).
[14.] You must have your character's power/status posted somewhere in your character's profile.

Mutants For this world to work, there of course needs to be mutants. Some kinds of mutants (for those who need a little help thinking of ideas) are:
* Mutants living in Broken City * Mutants hiding in the regular cities (keep in mind that there are realistic elements of danger with these mutants, and upon mod discretion, you may be asked to have your mutant discovered for what he/she is) * Mutants exploiting the underground system for their own means
For power ideas, I highly suggest looking at comic book sites for ideas, or Wikipedia.
Humans In a world of humans and mutants, humans are a necessary part of the game. The obvious are needed: crooks, government agents, all kinds of under-the-table dealing scums, and, of course, those nasty jerks who want to harm anyone who bears any kind of extra ability. However, allies and friendly civillians are needed as well, so keep that in mind.
