one thing then another ( narrative )
Who: Crawford, Jenny, and Nagi (NPC'ed with permission) When: early morning, Jun. 19th Where: Project Noir Facilities, Paris, France What: Schwarz parts ways with Project Noir.
There wasn't any question about how this would go. Everything about this escape was perfectly clear. The next week was another matter altogether, but that was all the more reason for them all to stick to the plan and stick together now. Crawford didn't consider Jenny part of Schwarz--it would take a lot more than simple convenience for her to earn that right--but he did consider her a useful tool to have around.
After all, what good were Esset computers and security systems if she caused a surge?
He backed up all the information he needed on the Schwarz system, got what last answers he could get from Dr. Song, and then let Nagi and Jenny handle the rest. And how splendidly did they handle it, even if they would only get the barest of nods from Crawford as a sign that he thought they were doing good work.
Under the guise of training, Nagi got Jenny out of her binds. And then, when freed from her restrains and her room, the combination of her powers and his telekinesis cut through the weak physical defenses of the room and into the power supply. Guards started to move quickly then, but they forgot just how quick they had made Jenny. She was reacting partially in anger and partially in terror: they never had actually arranged where to meet with Crawford, and what if their powers weren't enough? She needed to get out of here, do something about this program--she was so disoriented by the quick pace of her own thoughts that she didn't even register the handy way that Nagi took care of some of the guards. He had long experience incapacitating people: she would have realized how disturbing that was if she thought about it. But all she could think about was freedom.
Crawford was waiting for them at the end of the hall.
He held a gun in one hand, but otherwise he looked perfectly calm and put together. He walked with purpose but not nervously, and his stoic demeanor helped calm Jenny's nerves. It was a good thing--the last thing Crawford or Nagi needed was stray electricity messing something up.
Very little was spoken between them as Crawford led them through the facility on a path meant to avoid as many guards as possible. Crawford's intentions were not to single-handedly take Project Noir out. That job would wait for the Kittens, and he'd make sure that Nagi told his little friends about it.
That was when things would get complicated. Less than a week now. It made Crawford care very little about his actions this day.
