By now, Katniss thought she would be used to the traveling method in the project, but she still found it nearly impossible for her stomach not to shift when she envoked the bracelet. Thankfully, she landed on her feet and not in a crumpled heap outside the coffee shop door. No one blinked an eye or batted a lash as Katniss appeared and part of her still wondered if these people in any of these worlds and any of these times were actually real or just made up by this crazy project. Her only real encounters with them had been completely normal, but that meant nothing. They could have simply been programmed to be normal. Either way, it reminded her too much of the Capital and their strange devices to keep their world perfectly together. More than once, she believed she had fallen right back into her own world, but before they had changed everything with berries and a kiss. Maybe even a world where they didn't change any of it at all because it never happened. The thought made the huntress nervous; she didn't want to ever go back to the way things had been before. Her only regret and changes would be her sister's death and Peeta being tortured.
Brushing off her clothes, she shifted her bow and quiver on her back and pulled open the coffee shop door. The bell dinged, announcing her arrival, and more than a few of the occupants glanced up as she stepped inside. None of them said anything though regarding her bow and arrows or her outfit of her father's old hunting jacket and beat up boots. Never one totally comfortable in a crowd or with people, she tried to smile, but found it nearly impossible to pull the expression to her lips. Though she hadn't been home in many days, she still found it hard to smile at all. The memories of Prim's death were still so prominent in Katniss's mind and every time she closed her eyes to sleep, all she saw was the blond girl disappearing in the flames. The smell of burnt skin...
Katniss shook her head and forced her attention to the numerous drinks listed on the board above the cashier. There was nothing recognizable besides coffee and so Katniss stuck to the basics, paying for a small cup with milk and a few packets of sugar before finding a seat in the corner by one of the many windows. Her hands cupped the drink, the warmth seeping through her finger tips and the teenager shivered at the sudden heat on her cool skin. Her eyes remained on the window, watching intently and with some anticipation, for the arrival of her friend, her best friend once upon a time, Gale Hawthorne. She hadn't seen him since she was sucked into this project and while there was a part of her that boiled with hatred for his knowledge of the inevitable death of Prim. She truly wondered how she was able to face him at all. However, the rest of her still saw him as Gale, her best friend and hunting partner, someone she trusted with her life and the life of her family. That part of her had prompted her to agree to meet him here. Hopefully, it wouldn't be a bad choice.
