Having been texting Danny, and trying to figure out a polite way to tell him 'No, I don't want to have to face you today', Tess had given up and basically consented to him coming when the security officers had approached her to inform her about the hospital-wide lockdown. They didn't specify why, but did tell her that she was to report to her floor and stay there awaiting further instructions and so, coffee in hand, she had trudged to the elevator in the main lobby and gone up to the surgery floor. The ride seemed longer than usual and the place was eerily still, even just minutes after the code had been called.
Exiting the elevator, she immediately swung down the hall and grabbed some charts, popping a pen into her mouth to make her rounds checking on her patients. First on the list was Declan James, a 30-ish year old male, and boyfriend to Kim Munroe. He had come in the previous night with penetrating trauma to his left bicep, something they had initially delivered him to her for sutures for, but when she could not contain his bleeding, which was not severe but persistent, she had handed him over to the scalpel brigade to deal with the problem, he would be discharged later today if he could pass their standard little tests.
Satisfied with his progress for now, she passed him a menu for breakfast and informed him that it might be an hour or so before food could actually be brought up.
Slipping into the hall, she made her way for Veronica's room, sipping her coffee when one of the other scrub nurses, Mary, came darting into the hall. "He's up here, Tess, we have to hide!" Instinctively, the brunette grabbed her friend and dragged her into Veronica's room, where Dr. Shepherd was checking her vitals. Immediately, Tess locked the door behind them and she and Mary dropped to the floor out of sight of the window, with Dr. Shepherd drawing the curtain on Veronica's bed before doing the same.
"What's going on?" He asked.
"There's a man in the hospital with a gun, doctor!" Mary sobbed, clutching Tess' hand for dear life.
Swallowing, Tess pulled her phone out of her pocket, and texted Henry about what was going on before dialing 911. "Hello?" She whispered it, hearing doors slam in the hallway and Brian calling for her. "M-my name is Tesla Spencer, I'm a nurse at Hawaii Med. There's a man, his name is Brian Munroe, he's armed. I..."
BANG. She jumped at the familiar sound of a gunshot and had to take a few deep breaths. "The hospital is on lockdown, what do you mean that's all we can do? There are patients here!"
The operator went on to say that this was standard procedure and that once SWAT assessed the threat, that they would arrive. Tess hung up on her and waited until the sound of doors slamming stopped and the hall was eerily silent.
She took a deep breath and looked over at Mary, handing her phone over to her. "If they call back just tell them everything you know. If you hear any more gun shots, call and report those too. I'll be back."
"Tesla," Derek's voice was firm. "We should stay here, I've been through this before, we have a better chance if we don't move."
She ignored him, standing and unlocking the door from the inside, she peaked out into the hallway and saw another nurse, Rebecca, dead on the floor. She glanced at Derek one more time and walked out, locking the door with her keys from the outside.
She stopped briefly to double check Rebecca's pulse, then slithered down the walls in search of someone or something that could help.
