When John at last saw the familiar form approaching he swallowed hard, the hand that wasn't holding the curtain out of the way moving toward his back. As soon as he had arrived he started gathering what he knew he would need to protect himself, but it wasn't until the alien invasion that he began carrying a gun on him at all times. His hand never touched it though. The corner of John's mouth twitched, wanting to smile, when he saw Cameron raise her hands obviously for his benefit. Sure, it could have been a ruse, but his gut said differently.
He stepped back from the window and watched quietly as Cameron came in. There was a part of him that was still cautious but it became smaller by the second, her every motion steadily putting his concerns to rest. Though he was only human, he looked to her mannerisms and quirks for much the same reason she would look to his. If something was off or wrong, he would know. He knew her, and John was willing to bet his life on the instincts that were telling him what he wanted so desperately to be true as soon as he had seen her message on the network. In the end it wasn't caution that kept him standing where he was, but a measure of disbelief similar to what he felt when he had seen his father. With what had happened to him in this place John almost couldn't believe that something was going in his favor.
Her words brought out a smile tinged with relief and John chuckled, the sound a little choked. "You don't know how glad I am to see you."
For a moment more he stood, staring, before his feet finally began to move and he walked over to her. His gaze had yet to leave Cameron since she arrived. Foolish maybe, but he wasn't worried about anyone getting the drop on them. Not in this world at least. When John stopped he was well within reach and his eyes drifted up to where her chip was safely tucked away before returning to her face. "It's really you..."
