Lost in his thoughts and the urge to fall asleep, Dan hadn't even heard her come into the room. He knew where his parents were coming from, deep down. They were still singing the baby him to sleep every night. He was still little enough to lay across his father's chest and cuddle as they rocked together. He was still a fresh memory for his mother. It was hard for them to separate that him from the grown him. But he loved Lilly. He hoped some day that they would accept that fully. But he knew they would need time and space from the whole idea first.
He jerked a little when she sat next to him and his mouth turned up into a big smile. "Hey, beautiful." He said softly, his voice a quiet little purr. His arm came up to wrap around her waist and he held her tight against his side, kissing her temple gently. He'd change the channel now that she was here. And he did so quickly, finding some offbeat comedy for them to watch together. The football movie had never truly held his attention. She would do a much better job of that.
He had been concerned about her willingness to end her life. He was going to have to watch that in another crisis situation. He was too much of a fighter, like his dad, to just lay down and die, no matter how hopeless anything seemed. "I was just thinking about you," He told her, smiling softly. She very often occupied his thoughts, it was pretty much involuntary. But very welcome at the same time. "How's your Mom doing?" He asked, his fingers stroking her shoulder as he held her there next to him.
