Adam was startled when he realized that suddenly he was no longer alone. Rather, that he wasn't the only person around, as it was rare for him to truly feel alone when he was surrounded by nature. Being startled made his magic flare slightly, an uncontrollable defensive tic he frequently blamed on his dark magic as the brand on his palm would seem to warm a little as well when the flare-ups happened. Just one of the many things he tried to control without really knowing what he was doing. But his mind wasn't on controlling his magic at that moment. It was more concerned with who this person was and where they had come from. Were they a threat?
As he looked at her he felt that sense he had been feeling for days strengthen exponentially, to the point it almost made his breath catch in his throat. There was something about her that he couldn't put his finger on. He should have been weary but instead Adam felt overwhelmingly drawn to her. Perhaps this was the feeling Ethan had drunkenly talked about all those years, perhaps this was what he had felt in that other world where so many things had played out so differently from what he knew. Love and infatuation weren't new feelings to Adam -- he and his former girlfriend Diana had been together several years -- but somehow this felt nothing like that. Not even close.
"My name's Adam." he replied after a moment. Swallowing, he slowly got to his feet, but he didn't move to approach her just yet. After all that had happened to him in the last year or so he couldn't help but to be a little cautious, despite these strong new feelings inside him. "Where did you come from? I didn't hear you..." And ordinarily that should have worried him, but if he was worried about anything it was that she would disappear as swiftly as she had appeared.
