His few days of rest were over too soon and it was back to work. Not that Shaun really minded, he was better in the field anyways. It gave him something to do other than get in trouble for being restless. Being bred to be an agent had that effect on him. Too much free time and he would get antsy, irritated even with the lack of productivity. That didn’t set in for at least a week though. If he wasn’t working he was sleeping or training. It was odd that he hated staying still if one took in his special abilities. The boy was probably better suited in an observed coma than soldering but no one would have been very happy with that, Shaun least of all. It wasn’t like he was governed by his dreams either and he had only ever blacked out once. Sometimes he saw things that weren’t there… but the word hallucination wouldn’t have looked good on his file. No reason to alert suspicion or possibly raise trouble for himself.
Off to work then. The mission shouldn’t be too bad and although he was traveling with a team, Shaun was leading and he would be doing a majority of the work. The young tyrant looked out the window of his car and sighed, bored. The journey hadn’t been so bad but it was long. A terrible flight into Amsterdam; the city of Tulips, legal prostitution, and weed, before transferring to train and heading North to Den Helder. Then it was a ferry ride to the Island of Textel and a car ride to the outskirts of Den Burg where the facility was. The ferry had long since been shut down and they had to make due with a barely working one found abandoned in the harbor. Shaun guessed there had been some kind of Plaga infestation but his brief said there was an Umbrella facility making up most of the island. He was there to find something called a blozend kern… He didn’t speak much Dutch but Wesker had provided the translation. ‘Red Core’. Should be easy enough except for the side note. *blozend kern may need extraction and reintroduction through the blauw kern and geel kern. Chemistry. Fantastic.
Apparently the facility was still functioning up to seven years after the events of Raccoon City and had continued it’s research until the building’s generators were destroyed by social terrorists. People uniting against the facilities’ existence and usage of that island, whose inhabitants were all but Umbrella employees. They There was no mention of a viral outbreak but anything was possible as the island was cut off from the rest of the world. When the power was destroyed, the electronic locks were released and it was possible that any and all test subjects were released to roam the island as their prey fled for the shores of mainland. Shaun bet there would be more monsters than anything. Whatever was left of umbrella had sent a clean up team but they had only gone as far as securing the perimeter of the island with an oil fire. It should have eaten it’s way inward and effectively destroyed everything but one never knew. It was very likely that creatures were still alive inside if they hadn’t perished of starvation already.
Their car, transported via ferry, rolled to a stop near the access rode that lead to the shell of the Facility. It was huge and hadn’t been hard to find in the least. Almost the entire island had belonged to Umbrella in some form as its many employees had lived in the surrounding area. It was almost funny that the rapidly overdeveloping country had left the island to rot. An ill omen that someone or something was still alive here. Feh. At least it would make the job interesting.
Smiling to his underlings, Shaun opened his door and walked around to the trunk to retrieve his supply pack. “Ok. Let’s do this. Remember to stay in formation and in contact. we’ll split up from here to cover more area. Bennett, I want you to secure the building’s perimeter from the Left, Archer take the Right. I’ll go inside and get things started. Join me when your done.”
Clipping the pack onto his belt Shaun nodded and began the walk to the building, gun ready and senses alert. It felt good to have his restraints removed. He was able to thrash and gore as he pleased and the freedom was readily welcomed.
The brief had been right when it mentioned the oil fire and as the tyrant approached he crinkled his nose at the remnants of the fire which clogged the air. After a few attempts at opening the door it finally gave and the heavy metal ground against it’s hinges as it gave way. The inside was damp, dark, and uninviting.. Never fun. After this was all over, they would have to stop in Amsterdam for a few days.
