Who: Princess Cordelia & Open What: A Visit Where: St. Mungo's Hospital, Ginny's bedside When: Tuesday evening Status: Incomplete/Works as narrative Rating: Low
Cordelia Avery had always been selfish. She couldn't entirely help it--she was a princess, after all, and a baby of the family, which meant she grew up spoiled rotten. She got everything she ever wanted--toys, clothes, jewels, delicacies for most mealtimes--and when she got a bit older, that didn't change. Cory felt trapped by the crown in many ways, but she was smart enough to never push the envelope too much on most occasions, to get wasted in private with friends or meet up for that clandestine shag somewhere with a low risk of getting caught. Most of that, she had to admit, was thanks to one person: Ginny Weasley.
Ginny Weasley, her best mate since childhood. Her ride-or-die Gryffindor who grew up sharing a dormitory with her, who bullshitted thousands of feet of parchment worth of essays with her, who snuck her first illegal drink and potion and joint with her. Ginny Weasley, who covered for her on countless occasions, who courageously stood up for her to McGonagall in school and her parents, the King and Queen, once they'd graduated.
Her selfishness got her into trouble sometimes with both friends and family, and it definitely caused the latest rift between her and her best mate. Cory couldn't handle Ginny dropping the Harpies, knowing how damn hard she trained, to put her damn life on the line to sign up for the military. It was, Cory insisted, Ginny's dumbest life decision yet, and Cory didn't approve because she knew something like this would happen. She couldn't fucking wait until Ginny woke up and Cory could ream her out with the biggest 'I fucking told you so' in the history of the kingdom.
Ginny Weasley, who lay unmoving and unconscious since Thursday, looking scarily frail in that hospital bed with her white patient gown against pale, freckly skin, and a white sheet pulled up over her torso. Cory waited several days before plucking up the courage (some Gryffindor, yeah?) to see her in person. Lady Weasley gave her some time alone when she arrived, popping off to check on others and Cory settled in the chair Ginny's mum had been parked in for days.
"Fuck you, Cadet Weasley," Cory snapped in a rasp once she was alone with her, the first words leaving her mouth in a rushing breath as she reached out and took Ginny's lifeless hand. At least it was still warm. Tears stung the princess' eyes and she furiously blinked them back, gritting her teeth in a weak attempt to suppress threatening emotion. "You're a bloody idiot, you know that? A stupid, shite-for-brains wanker." Her voice broke on the last syllable and she bowed her head forward, free hand reaching up to cover her mouth as uncontrollable sobs wracked her body.
Through the breakdown, Cory reminded herself that Ginny would wake up. She had to wake up because Cory needed her to.
