Molly couldn't stop herself from rolling her eyes as Gert flipped out, accusing her of underestimating the power that Illyana had. It wasn't about power or lack of ability, it was about science. It was about chemicals in the brain and the way that peoples' minds developed, and it was just as limited to think that those changes weren't impacting the younger woman in some way. It wasn't something that anyone had control over, regardless of how powerful they were. Even though 'Yana had Xie E on her side, it never hurt to have more support, and even though it was obviously a bad idea to try to force it on her, and even though she'd probably reject a lot of it outright, that was no excuse for them to not offer. Sometimes just knowing that you weren't alone, and that there were people there who sincerely wanted to help you if shit got really rough was enough to get you through the day.
Chase seemed to be just as frustrated, if not more so, and Molly watched with an obvious look of discomfort on her face as he snapped back. He was right, though. They were the good guys, and that was the whole point of them doing what they did. And if they couldn't even find it in their hearts to try to trust the people they actually interacted with regularly, what made the rest of the universe worth helping?
"Nobody forgot what she can do," Molly added, voice lower than Chase's had been, "And of course young people can be powerful. I mean, I could bench press a freakin' building when I was twelve. But teenagers are more likely to be impulsive, and opportunistic, and short-sighted, plus they have higher incidents of mental distress, even without the outside factors that she has to deal with. And it's not bad, it's just how it is, and how it's gonna keep being for her, because that development doesn't stop until your early twenties. It's not making allowances, or discounting her completely, it's trying to understand and empathize. She's like us, and we don't have any reason not to trust her."
