►The outcome/score of this match was determined before game start by random dice rolls. ►Ravenclaw scored seventeen goals overall. Connor Yaxley scored the first goal of the match, then proceeded to score three more times. Billy Goshawk scored seven times, and Rachel Baddock scored six times. ►Gryffindor scored six goals overall. Christian Ross, James Potter, and Lily Potter each scored two goals. ►The match lasted six hours and fifty-six minutes. Freezing rain poured heavily all day, which severely impacted visibility, and northeasterly winds blew throughout the match, strong enough to frequently blow players off course, not to mention the Quaffle. Three replacement Quaffles had to be brought onto the pitch after previous ones were lost in the muck that was once the grass of the Quidditch Pitch. ►Ravenclaw Chaser Connor Yaxley snatched up the Quaffle at the toss, and flew immediately for the Gryffindor goalposts. Christian Ross attempted to gain possession of the Quaffle, but was knocked off course by a well-aimed Bludger courtesy of Casey Whisp. Mina Shacklebolt tried for the save, but a strong gust of wind made the Quaffle change direction midair, so she wound up flying the completely wrong direction and Ravenclaw scored before a minute was on the game clock. ►Apparently young Ravenclaw Chaser Billy Goshawk had practised hard since Ravenclaw's last match, where he was goalless. Goshawk scored the next three goals for Ravenclaw, predicting with apparent ease where the Quaffle would be blown by the winds and managing to always be there to snatch it up. Goshawk also managed to master a tricky way of throwing the Quaffle which made it difficult to determine at which hoop he was aiming. The flailing tosses might have looked a bit silly, but perhaps Gryffindor Keeper Mina Shacklebolt should not have been laughing, as she was consistently unable to block Goshawk's goals. ►Nearly an hour into the match, Shannon Creevey managed to knock the Quaffle out of Rachel Baddock's hands mid-pass. James Potter was there to scoop it up, and put the Quaffle neatly past his cousin, Ravenclaw Keeper Rose Weasley, to score the first goal of the match for Gryffindor. ►The Golden Snitch was nearly impossible to spot with the abysmal weather conditions, but that didn't stop Scott Entwhistle from trailing Gryffindor Seeker Gwendolyn Urquhart like his life depended on it. Though she did not appear particularly close to the Snitch, Entwhistle aimed every Bludger he saw at Urquhart for the first two hours until finally Hooch grew fed up with his antics and called a foul. Lily Potter took the foul for Gryffindor and scored. ►Ravenclaw Keeper Rose Weasley was certainly on her game today. Clever statisticians figured out that Weasley saved over two-thirds of Gryffindor's attempted goals during the long match. There was talk among some of Gryffindor's more bitter fans about the Ravenclaw team taking a dose of Felix Felicis before the match, but the majority of fans agree that what the Ravenclaws displayed today was skill, not luck. ►After Scott Entwhistle was reprimanded for following Gwendolyn Urquhart too closely, he turned his attentions instead to protecting Ravenclaw's prodigy Billy Goshawk. Despite Theodore Proudfoot's best efforts as Goshawk continued to score like this was the last Quidditch match of his life, the Ravenclaw Chaser was not touched by a Bludger all game. ►Christian Ross was in possession of the Quaffle and heading for the Ravenclaw goalposts when Connor Yaxley seemed to materialize from thin air in front of him (really just a very precise dive). Ross had to brake hard to avoid slamming into the Ravenclaw, and Yaxley managed to snatch up the Quaffle, scoring for Ravenclaw shortly afterward. ►Around the four hour mark, Ashley Twist spotted the Snitch and dove for it. Unfortunately for her, Gryffindor Beater and Captain Theodore Proudfoot was nearby and distracted her with a Bludger before Gwendolyn Urquhart could even begin to tail her. ►Fifth year Gryffindor Chaser Lily Potter had been suffering a bout of the flu prior to the match, but insisted on playing anyway. As the game wore on, the female Potter's throws grew more and more wild (once misaiming a pass so badly that it bounced off Shannon Creevey's head and into Rachel Baddock's waiting hands), until the game clock hit six hours and Potter fainted midair. Luckily, brother and Gryffindor teammate James Potter was close-by and caught her, so she was unhurt. A third-year reserve was brought on to finish out the match. ►Finally, just before the game reached its seventh hour, Gwendolyn Urquhart spotted the Snitch. Casey Whisp hit a Bludger at her to get her out of the way. The encroaching darkness and storm made it difficult to see anything; consequently Urquhart did not see the Bludger which flew into her outstretched arm and broke it. The Gryffindor Seeker's injury allowed Ashley Twist to overtake her and catch the Snitch, ending the game. |
