Orna dropped her feet down and rested her elbows on her knees, leaning closer to study his face. "Come off it, Case, I was hoping for shouting and whooping, or at the very least open weeping. You barely seem shocked at all." She smiled pearly whites, batting her eyelashes in her typical oh-you-know-I'm-not-that-annoying way.
"But seriously, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's relieved that their incessant flirting finally produced something. It's been a few weeks since she told me, I think, so with Becca that probably means a couple months or so." Orna was so happy that her friend had voiced her feelings - only think if she'd been quiet and the two had left school never properly connecting!
"Now, the material point is that I've talked Becca into bidding on him at this next week's auction," Orna continued, making a strange face that was half distress, half excitement. "And I don't want to send her to the wolves, yeah? I mean, where do you think Max's head's at?"
