Although she felt nervous in that moment, it didn't stop Gwen from rolling her eyes at James' comment. Trust him to try and make a joke right now. That was in his nature, after all. A reprimanding retort sat on the edge of her tongue as she let her eyes fall on him, but anything she was going to say died in her throat.
It well and truly hit her then. As she allowed herself to look at him, she knew that the past few days of pondering had been stupid. Chris had told her to go for it and she had hesitated on the grounds of ruining their friendship. But as both of them sat in the deserted common room with the storm continuing to roll outside, Gwen finally came to terms with her feelings. James liked her, and she liked him. It seemed so simple, so easy. At last, she felt as though she and James were on the same page and it was now or never. No point in making him wait any longer on account of her pointless hesitation, especially since this was possibly the only time the pair of them would be alone together without anybody else around to interfere.
"Jamie?" she began quietly, still avoiding his eyes. "Can I tell you something?"
