MONSTERS
There are many monsters in the afterlife. Here is a directory of them.
You may encounter any of these at any time; your character does not have to specifically have suffered from what it represents, but it is more likely to appear if they have.
ANTS
The ants are around the size of a baseball and fly around. They look like ants but with wings. They sting and they bite when agitated, but are rather harmless otherwise. Ants will steal small trinkets from souls and always travel in groups of ten or twenty. All they can do is buzz, no speaking. They represent good things that have been spoiled by an unfortunate event.
ARMORED CHARLOTTE
The Armored Charlotte is similar in appearance to this; the main difference is that this Charlotte is armored. Metal plates are tied to its body and it wears chainmail underneath that. It attacks by biting and tackling and is a very hungry monster; its personality is playful but vicious. It is mute, and very rare. It represents a specific event.
BABY
The Baby is something resembling a human infant; it can only crawl and very slowly. It has no eyes or nose or ears, but can sense you through the vibrations in the ground. It cries very loudly, just like a real baby, and crawls towards you. It's a very pathetic seeming monster but it is very deadly-- once you touch it, it explodes like a grenade without blood or guts. It does not drop soul energy, and represents unanswered questions.
BAT
The Bat is a small humanoid creature with a bat's wings and head. Its body looks like a child. It has no sex, and has very advanced vision. It can spot people from far away. These creatures travel alone. They often are killed by fellow monsters. It will not attack but rather accidentally smother souls with its wings in its excitement. It is very lonely, and will scream for you if it sees you inside a building. It represents abandonment.
BEDBUG
The Bedbug is a pill bug-like insect the size of a small dog. It is a very timid monster but will attack if its anxieties rise. It spits acid and runs away; it cannot speak. It represents night terrors.
BIRD
The Bird is a grey bird around the same size as a turkey. It is incredibly fast on land and in the air. It attacks by swooping down and slicing you with its talons and beak. It likes to hide behind things; it can usually be heard coming, but you won't usually know what direction it's coming from. It is a master at dodging bullets. It represents keeping a painful secret.
CAT
The Cat is a ruthless hunter. It is the size of a real cat, and always travels alone. Despite its size it is able to take down things twice its size. It is cunning and enjoys playing with its prey before killing it; it is an accomplished prankster. It will often taunt people. It represents bullying.
CHIMERA
The Chimera is the fusion of multiple humans and a quadrupedal animal. Its entire body is covered in the faces and heads of humans as well as many arms. Its head is reminiscent of a dog's, but with distinctly human features thrown in such as human teeth or human ears. It depends between the monsters but it is distinctly not animal or human. It moans and cries out and walks with a crooked gait; it is very uncoordinated and the faces all speak in different voices. It often falls over, and represents natural disasters.
DOCTOR
The Doctor is a humanoid monster with melted skin and a red cross emblazoned upon its back. It wears no clothes, and has no sex. It walks slowly with its short legs and attacks by tackling and strangling. Its grip is very strong, and is very hard to get out of. Its eyelids are melted shut and so it is blind; it has a very keen sense of hearing. It speaks garbled language. It represents hospital visits.
DOG
The Dog is a creature resembling a wolf; it is the size of a small adult bear. These travel in groups of two. They are vicious and do not play fair; they're also very intelligent and can create simple traps for unsuspecting souls. They do talk, but not often. It represents bullying.
FOX
The Fox is a fox that appears to be a regular fox. However the moment your back turns on it, it will attack with razor sharp teeth and claws. It speaks very fluently and is in general a very charming creature. It represents betrayal.
HAND
The Hand is a red human hand around the size of a large chicken. Its gait is similar to a spider in that it walks on its five fingers. It represents realizing you've done something truly terrible.
HORSE
The Horse takes on the form of an armored horse. It can speak and will often ask to die. It represents severe depression.
TOMBSTONES
Tombstones hide themselves as bricks in a building or a cobblestone on the ground. When they stop hiding themselves they spring toward whoever is near. The side they have facing down is covered with sharp teeth and can easily spear straight through someone. It cannot speak. It represents the sudden death of someone close to you.
WISEMAN
The Wiseman is half human, half deer. Its upper body is that of a human's, but one that is parallel to the ground, while its lower body is that of a deer's. Its arms are rail-thin and its legs are strong and powerful. Both arms and legs end in hooves. It can walk bipedal but its speed is significantly higher while on all fours. The head is that of a male human with many wrinkles and wispy grey hair. It represents unfulfilled dreams.
