THE HP SLASHER'S CODE

ETA:Due to some comments it is clear that some are viewing this post as a prescription for behaviour. It is not. It is not dictating how you or anyone else should behave and apologies if it reads that way. We just want your opinions and ideas. That's all. Really. Truly. Swear on my Harry Potter Lego.

Due to recent unfortunate and somewhat disturbing events within the slash community, a few writers snapesdarkling still_emerald , (formerly deep_emerald) and bella_the_dark got together and suggested that it might be time for the fandom to create an HP Slasher's Code of Conduct. This is to try and counter the rising 'Environment of Fear' that has always existed but has surfaced in an ugly manner very recently.

We are calling on all writers and readers of HP slash to contribute to the formation of this code (which should be viewed as guidelines we think).

Some examples of what we mean are below. Please comment with your idea for additions to the list which should ideally not be 50 miles long, but should contain the most important unwritten rules that we have lived by in this community.

We have no idea how this list would be used. If you have any clue as to where such a document might abide, please let us know. Also, if you think we are full of shit, please let us know. We just thought that something listing the way we would all like the fandom to operate might help to get people to behave in a rein a reasonable way towards one another.

It is wise to remember that fandom is comprised of many different people from many different places, each having their own unique set of backgrounds and beliefs. Keeping that in mind, fanfic is just that fan FICTION, written by a person because they happen to like a particular thing.

You will not under any circumstances, report a fellow slasher to any body of authority for any fandom- related reason.

You will never intentionaly set out to humiliate another member of the fandom.

You will not report something that you personaly dislike to the mods that be simply because you are pissed off or disagree with the content. You will instead employ your right to not read that author or journal.
