The Story So Far...Sylvia Wilde, Second-in-Command of Territory 21, reported to Territory Leader, Amaru that without proper medication and medical treatment, a patient of hers wouldn't last much longer. The only known place Sylvia knew of where to find the specific treatment was smack in the middle of a massive Revenant infestation. Since the Collapse, no one ever ventured in this part of Territory 21 due to the sheer number of Revvies. Yet, not only did Territory 21 need this precious medication, but there were other medical supplies that Territory 26 and 30 would need. A plan was formed, a date set, and representatives from each Territory were chosen.
As the creator of the plan and the only individual who knew the location of the medical building, Sylvia Wilde was the first of Territory 21 chosen to go on the mission. Prudence Lautari, a scavenger and trader in the Territory, volunteered to lead them as she knew the best way to get to their intended destination. Due to his Gift and combat skills, Johnathan Ackerman from Territory 26 was chosen to accompany the party on their mission along with Deirdre Prewett, a combat-ready vaccinated human and Irene Putman, a trusted vampire in Isaac Holt's inner circle were assigned to the mission from Territory 30.
The goal of the mission was quite simple: Get to their destination, retrieve the necessary supplies, and leave with as little conflict at possible. Rarely do such work out as planned, however. Not only must the group travel on foot, increasing their travel time by quite a lot, but they are racing against the impending thunderstorm coming their way. Time, unfortunately, is not on their side. By the time they reach their destination safely—much to their surprise—the storm is upon them and with sun gone, their party is ambushed by a single Revenant as soon as Sylvia starts toward the hospital entrance.
Completely caught off-guard and terrified, the good doctor is unable to use her vampire powers but Deirdre Prewett and Irene Putman easily take out the insane Revenant with their firearms. Afraid the noise will attract more of the creatures, Johnathan Ackerman takes point and clears the broken glass at the entrance to increase their chances of entering undetected. Once inside, they find the lobby eerily void of chaos and destruction save for the glass from the broken windows...
Deirdre hoped that the others didn't expect her to do the same sort of maneuver as Johnathan did to enter the hospital. He was either highly trained, or else not entirely human. They’d gotten past the doorway at least. She didn't focus on what had happened outside – having to shoot at the former… Sylvia’s brief moment was understandable. There was no sense in dwelling on the lost – indeed, now the individual could rest properly. She was focused entirely in the moment – the immediacy of their task. On whether the entire hospital was infested, or whether they were going to be (relatively) safe until they made their exit. Deirdre moved along the wall towards the hallway Sylvia had indicated.
Irene had to take a steadying breath after her well-placed shot took the revenant's head completely away. At least, she thought to herself, he's no longer suffering. She followed the rest of the group, still keeping up the rear and dedicated to watching their backs. There was no telling which direction another attack could come from.
The vigilante took his place beside Irene again after keeping a careful eye on the good doctor and Prudence, knowing from the little he knew of Deirdre that she could take care of herself. He was a little a concerned about Sylvia's reaction, but he, too, understood it. Even the best of calm demeanors buckled under the right circumstances. After Sylvia and Prudence followed after Deirdre, he tossed a smile in Irene's direction, "Excellent shot, Miss Putnam."
Prudence was happy to have the strong grip of Sylvia's hand around hers even for that brief moment and she gave it a little extra squeeze of support to say that the vampire's apologies were unnecessary. The scavenger in her was on the lookout for things to grab although so far the building seemed pretty bare.
Once the group proceeds through the next door, they find the opposite of what was seen in the Lobby. While Prudence noticed the area was nearly bare, this next area looks like utter chaos happened. Furniture and fixtures are in complete disarray and accentuated by bodies in various stages of decay. Walls and other surfaces are spattered with blood, old and new, and other stains that are better left unmentioned. In the distance, the group can hear the repetitive ding of an elevator door opening and closing as if it something is preventing it from closing.
Sylvia was dismayed at the appearance of their new surroundings and after the scare she'd previously had moments ago, she'd have a racing heart once again if it could actually beat in her chest. Due to her vampire sensitivities, the smell at first was nearly overwhelming and the doctor reacted in kind by pulling the sleeve of her shirt down over her hand and lifting it to ward off the worst of the stench. The ding of the elevator, of course, caught her attention and she pointed toward it, "That way."
Deirdre Of course their destination was through the destruction and to the elevator. That was not going to be pleasant. Deirdre felt herself detaching, observing details the same way she did her crime scenes. She cataloged some details unconsciously – the bodies and blood stains were different stages of decomposition, and different ages. This was not a single destructive event, but layered events that were not cleaned. She was a Professional. She picked her way through the debris towards the elevator, knowing she was probably going to have to clean a body (hopefully just one) from it, and prepared for the unpleasant task.
The smell of death was not a new one to Irene, although it had been a very long time since she had been presented with such an extreme amount of it. It reminded her of a battlefield, of bloated bodies laying scattered and festering in a field. She made no reaction to it, however, not even bothering to cover her nose because she knew it wouldn't help. She wanted to close the door behind them and secure it to make her feel better about anything coming from behind but she didn't because she knew an easy escape was much more needed. She did one last glance around the darkened room they had come from before following the rest of the group to the elevator.
