Irene remembered the time that Isaac was talking about. After the presence of vampires had been revealed and another outbreak had begun ravishing a section of the country. There had been a call for vampires to step forward and help with finding a cure for the D-virus and Irene had been one of a dozen vampires to answer that call. Mostly they were there to give samples of their blood and submit to other testing. It had been a no brainer for the vampire who had dedicated her life to giving to causes that mattered. She hadn't done it for the recognition, of course, but it brought a smile to her face knowing her maker had been watching and that he was proud.
"You know I couldn't leave that call unanswered." She said, her smile fading as she then recalled how it had all ended and that wasn't as nice of a memory. "There was an outbreak in the lab. Some accident with the virus breaking containment or something...all I know is that the scientists working with us had realized they were getting nowhere fast and now the facility crumbling under their feet so they got out while they could. Meanwhile they sent a small army to take care of their 'test subjects.'" Irene sneered at that, one of the rare times such a negative emotions would cross her features as she was normally very optimistic. "Even the advantage of having twice our number wasn't enough to take down a dozen vampires though, so we got out and ran." She sighed a bit, wishing not for the first time that things had been different but there was definitely nothing she could do about it now and so she didn't linger on the bad memories.
"Since then I've been traveling as much as possible. You know my routine...go where ever anyone needs me." She smiled again and shrugged quietly, "I went out to the west coast and back again and I've been down in Louisiana the past 6 months or so before heading up here again." The younger vampire glanced up at her maker, finding comfort in his blue eyes and familiar presence. "I'd like to stay here for a while, if you'll have me. You even look like you could use the help." She couldn't help but tease him a little.
