Loki knew how to be patient. And he also knew that the Powers tended to trade off their interference in the middle of the week, and that -- with the exception, so far, of Té's wargames -- said interference had a tendency to seem subtle, at least at first.

So he waited until Tricksy's toy-morphing trick was done, and he waited until he knew Deanna was likely to be coming through the courtyard any moment, and he hid in the shade of a tree that had been there as long as he could remember (and was not, therefore, the other Loki's mother), and he let the magic take hold and change him -- not just the appearance of his clothing, not just the appearance of his body, but the shape and substance of each.

It had been quite some time -- several centuries, in fact -- since Loki had last taken a female form. She stretched, carefully swinging her arms, and checked her skirts to make sure they'd been altered correctly. Good.

Next, Loki altered the appearance of her apartment key, to look as if it belonged to a different room -- one she knew didn't have tenants yet. Just in case.

And when she caught sight of Deanna, Loki adjusted her expression to bewilderment and a faint edge of fear, and hurried over on short, delicate, graceful legs. "Excuse me -- can you help me? I don't know where I am!"
