CHARACTERS: Gemma Godeaux & Rowan Quinn
DATE & TIME: first day of classes, 2017
LOCATION: The Academy
RATING: PG
SUMMARY: Gemma and Rowan meet. It’s about as awkward and wholesome as you might expect

Staring down at her schedule, Gemma let out a small sigh before frowning. She had no idea where she was supposed to go for her next class. Perhaps if she had gone to a traditional middle or high school she would be better at navigating a new place of education, but on-set tutoring had done nothing to prepare her for this moment. Thankfully, she spotted someone coming around the corner, which meant that someone was going to be asked the all important question of the hour.

“Hi!” Gemma said as she approached the woman and offered a small wave. “You don’t happen to know where the Basic Martial Arts class is being held, do you?”

Rowan glanced up as she heard someone speaking to her, an easy smile on her face. And then she saw who it was and her jaw dropped. "Amelia Anderson?" she exclaimed. A second later she wondered whether it was deeply uncool to know the names of Disney characters from a show that aired while she was in high school, but, fuck it, she had accepted her designation as uncool and it was Amelia Anderson. Her real name only came to her a moment later, and with it, her senses also returned. "Wow, hi, fuck, sorry for being a total fucking dork, I'm sure you hate it when people forget that, you know, you're a real person or whatever. Not that it's whatever that you're a real person, that's, like, really important and should be acknowledged, just, like, whatever in the other things people forget, you know?" Rowan wasn't entirely sure that made sense outside of her head, but she gave her brightest smile anyway. "So. Sorry, shit, do-over?”

She struggled for a moment to remember, what, exactly, Gemma had asked her, and her smile faltered as it came back to her. “I'm heading there too, and honestly, I think I am only like, 45% sure of where it is? So I don't know how helpful I can be but we can try!”

Through the entire ramble, Gemma just smiled. She was used to people both recognizing her and calling her by her character’s name. And if she was being honest, it felt good to receive such a reaction considering she had been out of the acting game for a little bit.

“It’s okay! You’re all good!” Gemma assured her new classmate as her smile widened. “I’m just glad you’re going there too so I can at least be late with someone else. I’m Gemma, by the way.”

Rowan snorted before she clamped a hand over her mouth. “Yeah, no. I know that. But it's cute that you introduce yourself like you're not a celebrity. Like, super endearing.” It was, and Rowan smiled warmly. And she was truthfully pleased that Gemma didn't back away slowly- not that she would have blamed her if she had. “I'm Rowan. Sorry for being weird. I mean, I think I said already, but bears repeating and all. Wish I could say I'm usually less awkward but yeah, no, that would be a giant fucking lie.”

“Oh, no. Trust me. I’m super awkward about a lot of things,” Gemma answered with a huge sigh. “I’ve just had ton of training, so I’m good at hiding it. But I’m still awkward. Trust me. We’re both awkward and we’re both fine and awkward together right now.”

Rowan was dubious- famous people weren’t supposed to be awkward- but then, Gemma was right and they would have to learn how to hide it. She decided not to question it. “Maybe the teacher for this will find both of us charmingly awkward and not be mad if we waltz in late? Maybe? Like, weirder fucking things have happened.” Like running into a celebrity in the halls of the Academy. “And I think the classroom is around that corner-” she lifted a hand to point, “-and up the stairs? But if we round the corner and there is no staircase, I’ve got fucking nothing.” She shrugged helplessly. “Worth a shot though?”

“If it isn’t around the corner and up the stairs, I feel like we’re going to have to bring donuts with us at this point,” Gemma answered before letting out a loud sigh. Turning toward her classmate, she gave her a huge grin before grabbing her hand so she could drag her toward the corner in question. “Guess we better find out!”

Rowan perked up at the thought of donuts, but that was pushed from her head when Gemma took her hand because oh my god she was holding hands with Disney royalty. She fortunately managed not to say that aloud, but she did grin widely and stupidly. “Let’s go! And honestly, I think we should get donuts after class because I want them now and who are we to deny ourselves donuts?”

“We definitely deserve donuts after this!” Gemma exclaimed as she gave Rowen’s hand a tug and began to drag her around the corner for an adventure unknown.
