Of all of the things Katherine could have been doing, being in the town that held way too many memories of the past was not one of them. She would have much preferred to be far away from Mystic Falls. But, then again, Stefan and Damon were both there. History repeating itself in ways she couldn't begin to fathom. Of course Elena was beautiful, that wasn't in dispute. But she rather paled in comparison with Katherine herself. A boring little human with no fashion taste and no backbone. One who had readily sacrificed herself in order to save her friends and family. It was only through sheer luck that the girl had made it out alive. A fool, in short.
But she hadn't died when she meant to. And so now Katherine was staying rather close indeed, waiting and watching from the sidelines to see what would happen when Klaus found out that his precious hybrids weren't surviving because the doppelganger was still alive. She'd place even money on Klaus winning that round. And, perhaps, the world would soon be down to one doppelganger. The best of the lot.
As she entered the Mystic Grill in search of a certain quarterback to compel herself some details on the latest news, she stopped cold in the doorway. For sitting at the bar was someone she hadn't seen in years, certainly not in this close proximity. And it was too late for her to exit again. He must have sensed her entering. She had to continue onward and put on the performance of her life if she wanted to save her precious hide. It was a good thing indeed that she'd started disguising herself as Elena for pure survival purposes. The pin straight hair and boring wardrobe went a long way to convincing people she was that small town girl. Acting did the rest.
"...Elijah?" She questioned, moving forward, hands clutching the strap of her messenger bag in a near flawless imitation of a nervous human. And yet there was a hint of warmth in her eyes amid the wariness. He was an Original, true, but he was the honorable one. The one who could be trusted most of the time, or at least when that ridiculous bond of 'always and forever' didn't get in the way.
