That evening had gone better than Alina had expected. While she knew she would be able to dazzle the court with her newly-developed powers, the true achievement had been the look in Kirigan’s eyes as she glided into the ballroom. Something in that look told her that if thery’d been alone, they would have gone far further than the sweet kiss they’d shared a day or two prior.
Mulling over what might be, she found herself distracted, easily taken in by the two palace guards who stated they were there to accompany her to dinner. She was hungry, after all, was always hungry after using her powers, and a place feast would be perfect. They led her through back corridors, away from the fete, and it wasn’t until they exited near the stables that she realized something was wrong.
She barely had time to cry out before a hard thump on the back of her head sent her reeling into the darkness. When she did stir several long minutes later, she was in a box, the cobblestones beneath the carriage jostling her with every step.
“That was too easy, Kaz,” Inez murmured from her perch on the front seat of the carriage. Way too easy to abduct the Sun Summoner.
