Elena wanted nothing more than to scream, to squeeze her eyes shut and cry but she knew it was unlikely that she would ever see Mystic Falls again. And so she kept her eyes open, focused on the square and the buildings she’d known so well all her life, fists clenched so tightly nails dug into her palms as she tried to keep back the tears.
