Nodding enthusiastically, Ioan slowed his stride a little so that they wouldn't get so far from the castle so quickly. He had a habit of walking further than he meant to, especially when distracted by a melody taking shape in his head or by good conversation. Add to that the fact that he walked fast naturally, and most people wouldn't want to spend more than a few minutes with him. They'd get left. That was why Anthony avoided his hiking trips after a while, knowing how far and how fast Ioan traveled on his jaunts. Granted, they couldn't go far thanks to the protective barriers around Hogwarts, but Ioan wasn't sure where they began and ended near the lake.
"Isn't it frustrating?" he asked. "I had a brief conversation with someone the other day about perfection - how it's nearly impossible to attain, but we keep striving for it all our lives. I have to agree, but with a few caveats. Like with a song, it can be perfect for a certain person or a certain moment...in that little space of time or for that one individual, music doesn't get any better. Is it the same with a spell? Or is there a point that's reached where you go, 'oh, that's what it should be and there's no improving it'?"
