But we should have had the sun,
Could have been inside,
Instead we're over
Padma's mother wasn't speaking to her. It had taken a lot for Padma to stand up to her parents. She wanted so badly to make them happy and please them that she had never argued or gone against their wishes. Ever.
Then again, she never had something worth fighting for. And now she did. Or had. Padma wasn't sure if Stephen still wanted to be with her or still cared about her. They had done an excellent job of avoiding each other for well over a week. She had been hoping he would tell her what he wanted from her, but Padma should have known Stephen was far too sweet and kind to start an argument.
But if they didn't talk about this, they were both going to be miserable forever. So Padma had lingered in the common room until she as certain no one else was in Stephen's room. Then she went up the stairs, opened the door, stepped inside and slammed it shut.
"You swore that no matter what happened, we'd still be best friends. I told you it didn't work like that and you promised nothing would ever keep you from being my friend. Now you're not talking to me at all."
