Who:Neville and Verity What:Neville memorializes Fang Where:By the Lake When:Just after the funeral Rating: Low Incomplete/Open
Neville went to the funeral. It was his first time going to the graveyard and he didn't have an easy time of it. He couldn't leave though, he knew he'd feel worse if he did. When it was over he didn't want to go inside. He wasn't hungry and was still avoiding the Great Hall, so he walked over to the lake. He was standing on the shore just watching the water. He couldn't help but think that McGonagall wasn't the only victim in this situation. He knew that Fang was just a dog, but he wasn't at the same time. Fang stood by Hagrid through everything, even the final battle. Fang had been in the fire at Hagrid's hut, he'd been there throughout countless detentions in the forest, and he was undoubtedly loyal through everything. Not only was he killed for nothing, his memory was tainted as well.
Neville plopped himself on the ground next to a large rock. He wished there was something he could do.
Then he decided that there was. He remembered Professor Sprout asking him to re-plant a dogwood tree she'd been growing in Greenhouse 6 outside because it was getting too big. He thought this would be rather appropriate.
Neville went to the greenhouse, took off his formal outer robes and grabbed a shovel before levitating the tree to the lake's shore closest to Hagrid's hut. He spent about twenty minutes digging the hole about 20 feet from the edge of the water before levitating the tree into it and filling in the dirt around it. He stepped back and ran the back of his arm across his brow, it may be late September but he still managed to work up a sweat. Something was missing. Neville went to the shore found a large rock and levitated it to the base of the tree. Casting a defodio he carved into the stone:
FANG Loyal Loved Never Forgotten
He put away his wand, sat under the small tree and watched the water.
