Two Packages/Letters
The first, addressed to Romilda Vane, showed up on her bed sometime late in the afternoon of September 21st. It was likely delivered by a house elf, who would have discovered it on Ioan's bedside table. Inside was Ioan's Hufflepuff scarf, which when moved, smelled a lot like him and the cologne he wore on special occasions (which would remind one of the outdoors and fresh air). There was also a letter.
Romilda,
By the time you read this letter, I will be gone. I don't expect you will understand and I know I'm hurting you, so first, let me apologize. Anthony and I are going to try to make our own way in the Muggle world for a while. We decided it was for the best, given certain circumstances. Besides, I can't let him go alone. I hope you can understand that, at least. I will keep in touch with you via the journals and I intend to come up to Hogsmeade to see you whenever I can. If you want me to, that is.
I can't tell you where I'm going, because I'm afraid someone will find out - not that you would willingly tell them, but you know as well as I that there are means of extracting information that are effective, if unpleasant.
If you don't want to hear from me again, just let me know by owl (one of the school owls will be sure to find me) or through the journals. I won't be offended if you choose not. Take care of yourself, and look out for your friends. Again, I am truly sorry for not telling you face to face. I only feared that the professors would catch me and keep me from leaving.
Yours,
Ioan
There was a tiny wrapped package. Inside was a statue of a running horse, carved from pewter. It was an image of freedom, and Ioan wanted Daphne to have it, to remind her of their conversation. There was again, a letter.
Daphne,
I wasn't sure whether to send this letter, but in the end, I wanted to. I am leaving Hogwarts, for good I think. It's simply not something I think I can handle right now, and my best friend needs me. If you think me a coward, I understand, but I wanted to tell you anyway. I still hope to be friends with you, and the invitation to visit stands, regardless of where I am. I'll be coming to Hogsmeade on occasion, so if you'd like to meet, I'd be happy to oblige.
I'll write to you as well, if you like, though it may take a little longer to arrive than Owlpost.
Take care of yourself, Daphne. You're a good person, and if you want it, you have a real friend.
