"That's sweet of you." She wished it was an offer she could return, but she doubted that her family would be as receptive to him. They would be polite, but she imagined she'd receive quite a lecture after from her mother. "If I do visit, I promise, there will be absolutely no hexing. After all, since you were kind enough to invite me, that would be horribly improper of me and one must always be proper," she answered, just the slightest hint of sarcasm in her voice. Teasing or not, she figured he already knew that she wasn't dangerous.
Even if it was a joke, there was still a certain grain of truth in his excommunication comment. Maybe her friends weren't good friends if they would hold something like this against her, but they were her friends nonetheless, and they were all she had. Her circle wasn't as wide as his she couldn't risk alienating the few people she had, not when she would soon finally outwardly defy her parents and maybe lose her family.
"I wouldn't call myself a rebel, really. It doesn't really seem to be rebellious if no one knows you're doing it. I don't think I've ever done anything openly rebellious, even if sometimes I've wished I could. I've been waiting until I leave school, I suppose." But she was talking to him. That was a start.
