(hjskfs I apparently only replied to this in my head. sorry about that)
His head tilted to the side curiously at her apprehension to answer his question. It occurred to him then that it was too personal a question to ask someone you really didn't know. It was, at the very least, a far cry from their small talk about quidditch and standards, but it was at least tangentially related to their discussion on redemption a few days earlier. But that didn't make it a polite thing to ask. Then again, despite how he was raised, Zacharias had never really been polite.
While he was genuinely curious, he was half expecting her not to reply, so he was pleasantly surprised when she did speak. He was silent for a moment after she finished, nodding softly in agreement as he considered her words. "Heavy question," he added dryly. "But a good one to ask yourself. If more people stopped and questioned what they were told, maybe there wouldn't have been a war, but I suppose that's a big if. It's better late than never though. Maybe now that it's over, we'll see a change."
He paused, sighing softly. There was more he wanted to ask, but it was clear that it wasn't something she wanted to talk about. He normally had no issue with pressing for information, but even he could understand that this was by no stretch of the imagination any of his business. This was not knowledge he had any right to, so if she didn't want to talk about it, he wasn't going to press her.
"Your parents left you though?" he added, brows furrowing. "I'm sorry." He meant it.
