Who: Ioan Cadwallader, Romilda Vane, ??? (Open to multiple people, based on location.) Where: Hogwarts courtyard. When: September 9th, afternoon. What: Ioan's playing his guitar for all the world to hear. Status: Complete/Closed.
Ioan slammed the cover shut on the book he'd been reading and grumbled in frustration. He'd used the days before term to go over most of what he'd missed the previous year, but now, he had to catch up on what was being covered this year if he had any hope of completing his seventh year in one try. Tossing it onto his bed, he tugged his guitar case from beneath the frame and retrieved the instrument. It bore no signs of the damage inflicted on it by himself and Constantine Rivers, but in his mind, he could still see the strings curling along the neck as they broke loose. His hand hadn't yet healed, either. He'd seen no reason to go to Pomfrey for the cut.
He was tired of reading, though, and he'd promised Anthony that he'd be in the courtyard at some point. Anthony had always been a willing audience, and Ioan always felt like his dreams were within reach whenever someone listened to his music. Granted, he hadn't written much of his own in over a year, but he had good reason. And, inspiration was slowly returning, albeit in a much darker form.
Fastening the strap back on the guitar, he swung it across his back and left the boys' dormitory, dressed (shockingly enough) like a muggle. He'd discarded his uniform earlier, under the pretense that it was just too hot. Which it would have been, where he finally ended up.
Ioan chose a sunlit corner of the courtyard for his stage, a low wall behind his back and the breeze just strong enough to tousle his hair. It was the perfect weather. As a warm up, he strummed through a few chord progressions, then plucked single notes that might have been a song, had he been following any rhythm. At last, he played the opening chords of a song he'd heard over the summer and liked quite a bit. He cleared his throat, and sang softly:
"Wait it out til the light Take a breath, say goodnight But don't ever go away
Wait around to find the time Only you can take what's mine But don't ever go away
I'll be waiting I need to let it go
Fade it out into the light All these years we never get it right I need to let it go I need to let it go I need to let it go..."
