Who: Justin and Wayne
When: Um...last week? Yeah, it's a bit backdated. Crazy backdated
Where: 8th year Hufflepuff boys' dorm
What: Talking about Sally, family and children, followed by a carefully crafted fade to black
Justin felt a little bad, like he'd lured Wayne away from studying with promises of sex. That wasn't entirely true. He was actually very proud of Wayne's work ethic. Maybe giving him a goal to work toward was the key. Not that Justin really thought it was all his doing; in fact, he thought he was a horrible influence.
Actually, he had Sally on his mind when Wayne came through the door. Still, that wasn't enough to stop the smile that tugged at his lips whenever he saw his boyfriend. Laying in bed with a quill behind his ear and his glasses obscuring his bright blue eyes somewhat, he held out his arms to beckon Wayne to him.
Wayne had been very dedicated in his studies. For months he'd only been coasting by, thinking he wasn't going to need any of it after he got out of the bubble. But now he could see his place in the magical world and knew he needed to keep his marks up if he was going to amount to anything.
By the time he got back to his dorm, Wayne was tired. His eyes hurt from reading and his hand was cramped from all of the notes he had taken. Seeing Justin with his arms opened was just what needed. Dropping his bag at the footf his boyfriend's bed, Wayne climbed in and plopped down next to Justin.
"My brain hurts," he whined.
Justin kissed his boyfriend's temple lightly and wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling close to him. "You know, I've been very proud of you lately," he said. "You've been working very hard, Wayne, and I know your marks will show it when time for NEWTs comes. But no reason to overdo it, yes?" He snuggled Wayne with his head on the other boy's shoulder. "And I think now is an excellent time for a break."
Wayne lifted his eyebrows up at Justin. "Thanks? It's not a big deal, you know. I went to the library plenty before." But he had to agree that now was a great time for a break. Justin fit so nice and neatly against him and Wayne smiled before kissing him lightly.
"I vote for a nap." Wayne yawned and draped an arm over Justin. "A really long nap."
Justin laughed softly and kissed Wayne again, palm splayed on his chest. "Maybe I just like to pretend that I am a better influence than people might otherwise give me credit for," he suggested, closing his eyes. He was silent for a long moment.
"Have you and Sally made up, then?" He asked, which was pretty random, but at the heart of what he'd been thinking about before Wayne had arrived.
Wayne had really meant he'd like to nap and after Justin fell silent, Wayne had closed his eyes and started to drift off. At the question, Wayne opened his eyes and blinked.
"Huh? Uh. Yeah. A few days ago or something. Why?"
Justin hesitated slightly. "I wished to be certain everything between the two of you was all right. She apologized to me as well...I didn't feel she needed to, really, but I...couldn't bear feeling as if I had come between the two of you." Do you still love her? Justin desperately wanted to ask.
"Hmm. Yeah. Everything is fine," he said with a yawn. It was cool of Sally to apologize to Justin. Wayne appreciated that. Maybe he's make an effort to get along with Harold. Then again. Maybe not.
"It wasn't you. Sally and I just had to talk about some stuff."
"Of course," Justin said thoughtfully. "Her and I spoke of being family. That since I didn't have my own any longer, how it would be nice to have a sister once again." His voice hitched ever so slightly at that.
Wayne kissed the top of Justin's head and hugged him. "You have me. And Ernie. Zach. Megan. Sally, too. You were never really without family," he said softly.
Wayne wondered what his mother was going to say when he brought Justin home. Which he was planning on doing as soon they could. "We can be the Finch-Fletchey-Hopkins-Macmillian-Smith-J
Justin giggled at first, and after a moment it turned into outright laughter, and he couldn't remember ever being sad, because Wayne made him so happy. He kissed his boyfriend slowly and lovingly. "And here I thought my own surname was burdensome. I had been thinking of going as Justin Hopkins, actually," he added rather seriously, though the smile was still on his lips. "Would be much easier for any potential children, should we decide that is...something we wanted to do."
Wayne felt his stomach flip around again. Talking about the future like that made him nervous. Because they were so young and Wayne still felt, from time to time, that Justin was going to wake up one day and see what a goof Wayne really was.
"You want kids?" Which Wayne did too, one day. But how exactly.. two blokes couldn't.. "How would we do that?"
"I suspect we could adopt one," Justin said after a moment of thought. "Since the...ahem...natural way is, well, very enjoyable but entirely fruitless, on that scale. That is, if you would want any." The thought of raising a child or two with Wayne filled him with a warm sort of glow.
Wayne found himself smiling. Grinning, really. He leaned over to kiss Justin again, happy as a clam. "I didn't know you could do that," he said honestly. "Anything else I don't know?" He suspected there was a lot of things he didn't know about life and love, but Wayne was looking forward to learning them all with Justin.
"I.." love you. Wayne opened his mouth to say it, but froze before he could. Saying that to Justin made all of this so much more real. Made it all.. permanent. And while he might want that sort of thing, Wayne wasn't sure if he could admit it yet. "I think we should probably start with a flat first."
If Justin noticed the hesitation, or had an idea of what Wayne had been about to say, he didn't show it. "I agree," he said. "I am not quite ready for the pitter-patter of little feet just yet." But he did love that Wayne was thinking along the same lines as him, and that, well...Wayne thought long-term enough that they would have the time.
He leaned in for a long, slow kiss, and his hand reached up under Wayne's shirt to rest, palm-flat, on his chest, feeling his heartbeat through warm skin. "Anything else you ought to know...mmm...I completely and utterly adore you, and I find you quite irresistible." He smiled. "You may have known these things, but it never does hurt to restate a point."
Wayne moaned lightly into the kiss. It was impossible not to. Justin was a damn fine kisser and Wayne didn't exactly have that much experience. He was still so happy and thrilled that Justin wanted to kiss him as often as he did.
"I knew that, but I like hearing it anyway," he said and reached up to stroke Justin's hair. "I didn't expect being with someone to feel this way. It's like.. I had this idea of how it should feel, but you showed me what being with someone could really be like."
Justin smiled, even more than before, if possible, and his eyes drifted shut as Wayne played with his hair. "You may find this odd, but I feel the same way about you, Wayne. I have never wanted to...have a future with anyone as I do with you. Nobody else has ever given me the feeling that I am...complete."
"Really?" It shouldn't have surprised him, but it did. Wayne wasn't the most confident of people and Justin certainly had a lot better looking blokes after him at one point in time or another. "Well. I'm glad. I like that you want to be with me so much." Because Wayne was pretty certain that if Justin changed his mind at some point, he'd end up very alone for a long, long time.
Justin smiled, but it kind of faded because it occurred to him that Wayne...wasn't quite returning the sentiments with enthusiasm. And Justin knew that wasn't really how he was, but it still tickled the back of his mind. "Do you...Wayne?" He bit his lip. "You..." He took a deep breath. "Remember when you told me that you loved Sally?" He asked, heart hammering against his ribs. "I...just was curious if that were still true."
Wayne blinked for a moment, completely surprised. No, of course he didn't still think he was in love with Sally. Or he wasn't. Wayne wasn't exactly sure if he was in love with her or thought he was in love with her, but whatever it was he knew it didn't apply any longer.
"Nooo," he said slowly. "I mean, I love her like my sister and friend, but that's it. I'm in.." Wayne's mouth went dry and he began to stumble over his words. "I. You. See, I..."
Justin sighed his relief, and moved quickly to place his lips over Wayne's to silence him before his mouth got him in trouble. "All I needed to hear was no," he promised. "You don't have to say more than that. I just...needed to know."
Wayne kissed Justin back slowly, gently. Thank Helga. He hadn't been ready yet and Justin sensed that. Wrapping one arm tight around his boyfriend, Justin reached for his wand with the other and snapped the curtains shut around them.
He could think of some other things he'd rather be doing than talking at the moment. Things that no one else besides them needed to see.
And Justin was sure, as Wayne pushed him down against the bed, that he would have that nap he so desperately had wanted.
Eventually.
