"Yes," Hermione said, running through the halls with Padma levitating a foot ahead of her. Periodically, she would look behind her to see if any others were following, though of course she knew that was silly; there had only been the one and it was dead. Not to mention if she didn't look where she was going, both she and Padma would run into a wall.
They were on their way up the final staircase to the infirmary floor when Hermione screamed, her shoulders bucking up by her ears as five, then seven, then thirteen spiders bit into her scalp, her shoulders and her back. Hermione wasn't aware that she missed the last step and that she went down, falling with a very loud thud as her head bounced on the landing, that Padma, too, was falling. The world had already gone black.
