Ioan saw red when Anthony admitted what had happened, but he suppressed his urge to punch something. Instead, he got up and walked over to the bed, where he joined Anthony. He sat beside his friend and wrapped an arm around the other boy's shoulders, resting his forehead against Anthony's temple.
"Bloody bastards, the lot of them," he hissed, though there wasn't half the anger in his voice as what he felt. "I'm sorry I wasn't here. I'd have been right there with you."
He closed his eyes against the memories of Azkaban and the screams of his fellow prisoners and tried to imagine what Anthony and his other friends must have gone through. It was awful to even hear it spoken aloud, that such things were permitted. But then, no one ever accused the Death Eaters of being kind, even to their own children, let alone the children of their enemies. And to turn students into their minions!
"So I guess the Ministry's afraid of imprisoning students, even when the student uses an Unforgivable on a classmate. On a friend. Maybe they should take a page from the Death Eaters in that case," he said quietly.
Normally, he would never such a thing. As he'd told Daphne, he wasn't normally a vengeful person. Slights against him he could handle, but when it came to his friends, a line was drawn. Also, it was a fear of his that when he finally met the people he considered his enemies on the train or at Hogwarts, could he really live alongside them and not want remittance? Could he forgive them for what they did to his friends? To himself? He wasn't sure.
