Anthony grinned, licking his bottom lip as Zacharias started to talk. Not to be cocky, but he was good at what he did and he knew how to use it to his benefit. At least, when the situation called for it. He didn't unravel his hand right away from the shirt he was holding onto. "I think we were all afraid." He wasn't trying to sound demeaning, and he hoped it came off that way. "If we weren't, we would have been one of them. It's silly not to be scared."
Months later and they were all still a little scared, Anthony knew that as fact, because it was still true for him. He put on a brave face and he went about his life, but things weren't normal anymore. He wasn't sure anything would ever be normal again. "I walked out of the doors, terrified and within minutes, I was knocked out." He really, really wasn't trying to brag, or make himself out to be a better person than Zacharias. He wasn't. He knew that. Zacharias was a good person under all the airs and shows he put on for people.
There was no use in telling Zacharias that it would have been better if he had not run. The whole thing was in the past and there wasn't anything anyone could do about it at that point. But that didn't change the fact that there would probably always be that little bit of distrust. They were supposed to be able to count on each other, it was part of the point of the DA. "You're wrong though. You are a good person. You try to hide it. You just need to realize it." Anthony could be a real sap sometimes.
