Things weren't ideal, not even slightly. This whole quarantine thing was scary, not to mention the students getting sick. Charlie didn't rightly know what to do with himself, so he did what he usually did in situations where he felt lost and threw himself into his work.
He'd set about helping Hagrid work on lesson plans, and take care of the creatures slowly re-establishing on the grounds. He'd offered to help with maintaining some of the more crumbling parts of the castle, helped sort out the mail, kept an eye on the house elves, and his down time, he spent pouring over maps of Romania, looking at the borders of the Dragon Preserve, and researching the magical creatures in the castle. He'd turned himself into a weird mix of Grounds keeper and caretaker (much to Filch's annoyance).
Mostly it had worked at keeping him busy right up until he'd crashed out in bed, and in getting his mind off the troubling worries surrounding the school and his family. George was having a tough time of being forced to stay, and Charlie was subconsciously keeping a close eye on his younger brother to make sure he didn't try anything stupid...again...
The weekends were a little harder to fill though, with Hagrid not busy with classes, he tended to tell Charlie to take the day off, unaware that it was the last thing Charlie wanted to do. He had no idea what he was going to do with himself all day, especially as he'd apparently been unable to sleep past 6am, regardless of having nothing to do. Old habits and all that.
Bleary eyed, wearing a crumpled t-shirt and jeans, with a cup of tea and a plate of toast heavily slathered in jam, Charlie Weasley made his way slowly back from the kitchens to his little Care of Magical Creatures quarters. Thank Merlin Hagrid had his hut so Charlie could have the offices. At least he didn't have to stay in the dormitories with the rest of the people trapped in the school!
