Vieve had been walking exterior of the room. She had been walking the room for the better part of the entire day. There were blessings about not being on active assignment, and there were drawbacks. It was true, she didn't have endless amounts of paper work to fill out. She was, however, spending copious amounts of time in one specific room. In the time she had spend in it, she had learned every little corner, every nook and cranny. She even knew about the little spider that had tried to hide itself in the crease between the wall and the ceiling.
What she hadn't noticed was the way Linton walked just a little too stiffly past her into the room.
Somewhere in the background she could hear Benjy's voice. It was a distant thing, tugging on the edges of her conscious. It was enough to make her hand tighten around her wand. Benjy was yelling. There wasn't enough time to step forward, to shout stop. There was barely enough time to even move, except to cast the most basic protection charm anyone could manage -- barely anything against the wake of the explosion. The force of it sent Vieve flying back, her back impacting the wall as the room crumbled around them.
When she opened her eyes next, everything was a haze. Grey and unstable as she looked around. She could see where there had once been a door. She was centimetres from it. She could hear Benjy's voice with someone else - McLaggen, was it? She tried to rise, but she became increasingly aware of weight holding her down. Centimetres.
"Benjy?" She called out, her voice weak and shaky. Broken ribs were obvious, even if the pain hadn't hit her yet. What she could feel was the vague annoyance that her wand was no longer in her hand so that she could move whatever was on her off herself -- it was enough, at that moment, to keep the terror at bay.
