“A most unexpected turn of events,” Kazim said, as he waited. “Perhaps we should all have a cup of tea and wait for the panic to die down. I’m sure there will be some sort of announcement before long. Ah, thank you my dear.” he accepted the robe Tracey tossed down towards him over Lavender’s shoulder and swirled it around himself.
Lavender cautiously opened her eyes. “Well… all right,” she said hesitantly. She didn’t particularly want to go out into the street in pyjamas, with all this going on. But she also felt odd about sheltering with strangers. “If you don’t mind the imposition.”
“Not at all,” Kazim said. He still hadn’t made a decision, but he only had to look at Tracey to see what Alecto wanted. She’d been disciplined enough not to attack the girl and tie her up in the basement, like last time. Such good behaviour really ought to be rewarded... “Do any of your friends know you are here?” he asked, casually as he led the girls through to the kitchenette and put the kettle on.
Lavender shook her head, her fingers bunching in the fabric of the borrowed sweatshirt. “I don’t think so. I just… arrived here.” Something didn’t feel right. She didn’t know how to explain it, she felt like her hackles were rising.
Kazim recognised her now, from their short-lived teaching days. There was quite a remarkable difference in a appearance, however, it was not surprising it had taken this long to make the connection. If he hadn’t been so focused on Pansy back then perhaps he would have noticed her more. He made the tea, blocking his hands from view with his body.
