Lia & Open
"I'm open to suggestions," Lavender said, while her eyes were darting around, looking for a safe exit. Hell anything on the cool side of a volcano would do. "Wait -" she said, as she looked up. There was a balcony on the first floor of a shop above them, out of the way of the crushing crowd. There was an emergency ladder, but it was rolled up.
She tugged Lia to the foot of the building, finding a spot against the wall. "Stay here," she breathed. A short run up was all she needed. She jumped over twice her own height and caught the bottom rail with both hands. The hard part was doing the rest only with her arms, but somehow, she managed it. Once her feet were planted she thrust herself over the top and landed with a heart-stopping rattle of rusty metal. Breathing hard, she crawled over to the release and pushed it hard until the ladder went shuddering down towards Lia. She only hoped people wouldn't swarm it - the balcony surely wouldn't hold more than two people.
