"Excellent." Still smiling that perfectly-friendly smile, he led Lia to the back room where a number of small chests were lined up on a table. Amcyus' mother had had quite a lot of jewellery, some of which he would probably never be able to sell, as they were too well-documented, but the rest would make nice window pieces. He left the door open, and went to open one of the chests, revealing a beautifully delicate diamond necklace on a dark blue pillow. "Early nineteenth century," he said, turning the chest towards her so that she could see. "Diamond and 15 carat gold. Lovely, isn't it?"
He watched her face as she looked, considering. Yes, why shouldn't he hire her? he'd have to be careful, of course, no matter how tempting it was to take his revenge right now. It was a bit of a risk, of course. The memory charm he had performed might not stand up to frequent, close-quarters interaction. Then again, by all accounts the Aurors looking for him had all but given up, and his cover was sound. He'd just have to convince Alecto not to play any silly games.
