"I want you to know," she replied. She couldn't pinpoint a reason why, besides guilt over probably leaving Jessie alone. This was just another thing on the long list of things that Ronnie would do for her siblings, no matter how much they didn't get along. "There were -Well, I never tried to keep count- So, there were a number of times during the winter that I couldn't convince an innkeeper to let me work for a room." Of course, that had only happened after her savings had run out. While she had been able to be charming enough to get pity or get a deal, there were other times that she couldn't. And wasn't it convenient that those times happened to be with a guy who was either single or in an unhappy marriage? "But the men were pretty willing to let me earn it in a different way. So if you had ever woken up during the night, and I wasn't there, chances were I was in the innkeeper's room." It didn't look like it bothered Ronnie in the slightest. It didn't, not really. She was consenting, and it was necessary. She wasn't even ashamed, but she knew other people, Jessie maybe, would look at what she had done and be disgusted.
Ronnie looked away from Jessie, her hand playing with her bracelet again. She considered just not answering the question. But there was no way Jessie would let this go, and there was no way to bring up the second part of this conversation without telling her. "I'm going after Greyback. I'm not here for you to try to talk me out of it. I just needed to talk to you...incase."
