Daphne nodded once and turned back to the room with a smile, glad to hear a little authority in his voice. While she was used to being bossed around, she didn't necessarily like it, but she tolerated it. And if Stephen wanted to pretend for a few minutes that he had any sort of control over her (which he really should have), she was going to allow it. He'd been so out of sorts these last few months and Daphne had done nothing about it. She'd been too busy with her own life, thinking she was in love with Laura, but that hadn't worked out at all. She had to focus on them.
When he came back downstairs, Daphne had worked her magic and the bottom floor of the cottage was much tidier than it had been before he'd disappeared upstairs. The dishes were clean and put away in cabinets, linens were folded and placed away. Dust had been cleared and the floors didn't look like they would attract bugs anytime soon.
Daphne was sitting on the couch, one leg crossed over the other, looking quite pleased with herself. Cleaning wasn't something she had done much of in the past, having grown up with House Elves, but it wasn't nearly as hard as she thought it would be, especially with magical assistance. And not even a single hair had fallen out of place. Her cleaning charms were surprisingly good. "Do you feel better?"
