Stephen had waited as long as he dared, trying his best to come up with any other solution that the one proposed. There had to be something! Perhaps it was the stress, or the hopelessness creeping into his stomach, but his mind just wouldn't work. There wasn't another option. He had to do as he was told. But at least he might be able to get something out of it.
Hurriedly, Stephen went through the books he'd managed to read and copied out the spells he thought might be of some use to him in the future. It felt dirty to do, but if he was going to put himself in a worse position he at least wanted to get something out of it! He folded the parchment as small as he could get it and, after stalking his way through the cottage a few times, determined the best place to hide it was under a loose window ledge. It wasn't obvious, so hopefully they wouldn't be found until he could come back and claim them.
With that done, Stephen collected Hermione's books and placed them in a bag and left them on the dining room table. He was glad Daphne had gone to stay with Astoria. It meant he would have to do a lot less explaining.
With a sigh, Stephen settled himself at the table and laid out his wand so it was clearly visible from the front door. He picked up his quill and opened his journal and began writing, wondering the entire time if this really was the best course of action and if he was ever going to get out of this alive.
