"I had some pain. I had some twinges in my stomach. It was just- because it was the day after new year and I'd been moving things, lifting things, and I thought I'd done something to hurt him. But Madam Pomfrey told me, she told me it was just because he was kicking. He was kicking and it was so weird-" Penny laughed. "I'll let you feel if he does it again whilst you're here."
She listened intently as Rose spoke to her, frowning. Her own parents weren't exactly brilliant, but they'd muddled through. "I understand, I know. I worry about it, too. I worry- I never really thought of being a mum. But you know you'll be there for your baby, so you know it's going to have a good life. You'll love them, won't you? And you have your partner. It's a lucky baby." If she hadn't been dating Benjy, well, she didn't know how she'd be feeling now.
"I always called him 'him'. I didn't want to say 'it'. I understand. You could always give them a name. Just a nickname that you could call them."
