Cassius had never gone out of his way to form incredibly close bonds with any of the aurors that he worked with in the Investigations division. But that didn't mean he was cold towards them either. Hell, one could even consider some interactions friendly. But with his different assignments that lead him either undercover for months or travelling across the country, tracking down leads, following trails, questioning locals, and everything else their job entailed, sometimes it was difficult to maintain friendships. Hell, when undercover, even sending a letter could be difficult. You never knew who was watching, or who could intercept your communications.
But Dexter was always a decent individual. They had worked on an assignment or two together in the past, and Cass had never really minded his company. But he also knew of his blood status, and even though it didn't matter one single bit to Cassius, his father always lingered in the back of his mind, and he refused to form any kind of close bond with someone who could feel the wrath of Warrington Sr. later on down the line. He couldn't handle that again.
Here though, within the confines of the Quarantine, while other people shuddered in fear over what was happening, Cassius remained calm. Hell, overjoyed even. His father wouldn't risk being trapped like an animal, and for the time, hell, for one of the first times in his life, he oddly felt safe.
After finishing writing with Dex, Cassius straightened up his room. After the attack on the Great Hall a few days previously, most of the students were instantly moved out, or were still in the process. That meant he had a rather large dormitory room to himself for the time being. He shrunk most of the beds but two (just in case), and stashed the shrunken ones away in a drawer which allowed for a fair bit of room. He also moved in several bookshelves and tables to house his books and extensive notes, which even in his time of screwing around here, were still meticulously kept. Records of journal conversations among students. His interviews when the Finnigan boy disappeared. Even some accounts from the most recent bombings. It was all there, and more.
Trying his best to make the place look like a tornado hadn't gone through it though, he made his way down through the Slytherin common room and pulled open the door. It seemed he had rather perfect timing.
"Dex," he said with a nod of his head in greeting, moving aside to let the other man enter. "Just down the hallway over here, if you don't mind.." he mentioned, motioning for the other man to follow. Once inside their room he waved his wand, redoing all the wards that would keep them safe, and from being spied on in any manner.
"It's good to see a familiar face," he commented, once he was finished. "Have a seat, if you so desire. Sorry about the mess. I'm sure you understand."
