"I have no desire to force anything with my mother for a good, long time," Justin declared, raising his glass as if in a toast to the old harpy. "She's never liked that I was a wizard. She blamed me for Maddy's death. I'm not even sure she's human." He got unsteadily to his feet, a wave of lightheadedness washing over him. "Because they came for me, you know? And Maddy was hurt, and I wasn't even there." He closed his eyes, so the world might stop spinning for a moment. "I didn't find out for months. She had time to process that. It's still fresh for me." He sighed and crouched back down on the other side of the bottle from Percy. "I'm sorry. You don't want to hear this." He got to his knees and leaned back on his haunches, looking a little blearily at Percy. "I...it's been a long time since I've seen you," he said, "but I think I prefer your own face. And the hair." He pulled his own blond hair out of his face and over his shoulder. "Call me when you get your own body back," he giggled, and winked.
