It wasn't particularly busy down Diagon Alley on a Monday, but it was still quite crowded with witches and wizards doing daily shops or visiting the newly opened Gringotts bank (now absent of large dragon-shaped hole in the roof).
In between the crowds of shoppers slipped a unnoticed figure. Just another shopper going about his business, trying to push past the people in front of him. In the blink of an eye Harold's fingers could be in and out of a wizard's pocket. Most people didn't put anti-thief charms on their purses or wallets. Much too much hassle! Magical people expected others to steal from them with magic, which was easy to spot or feel or ward against. They weren't used to people with slippery fingers. Harold had already managed to lift three purses as he approached his next victim. The trick was not to look at them, or look like you'd noticed them at all. Use your periphery vision!
Most people also didn't realise they'd been pick-pocketed until they attempted to spend a little money...
He softly bumped into the back of his victim and in a split second his hand had dipped in their pocket and snatched its contents. Just as he started to walk away the worst thing imaginable happened. He felt fingers close around his wrist, tugging him to a stop...
