Michael wasn't exactly subtle with his irritation, and Stephen couldn't quite get his head around why. Had he honestly enjoyed listening to Stephen going on about his problems all of a sudden when they'd barely exchanged words for a month prior? That was hardly the case.
"I never said you were," Stephen said defensively. He had the sudden sense he had out-stayed his welcome. He hadn't intended to let it get this far, he'd only wanted to extend a warm olive branch to make Michael feel better. He backed away from the bed. He'd let his emotions get the better of him again. Stephen sighed and turned away, "I hope the pad helps Michael. I hope you feel better."
