Poseidon was up to something.
All of the warning signs were there, whether anyone noticed them or not. Amphitrite noticed, and her curiosity was getting the better of her. Generally, when he found a new female to amuse him he stuck with it for a night or two. He had hardly returned to their castle at all in the past week, and when he was he looked beyond pleased with himself.
Then there was the golden feathers that were blindingly familiar, but she couldn't put her finger on where she'd seen them before... Perhaps he was going to the surface. Amphitrite didn't truly know much about surface life, maybe he enjoyed plucking the feathers out of golden birds (there were golden birds, right?) and eating them.
Amphitrite didn't know how close to the truth she really was with that thought.
Investigating her husband's actions was not a difficult task when she had all manner of sea creatures spying on him for her. Okay, not necessarily spying, but they definitely noticed when the god of the sea passed...
The dolphins were the easiest to communicate with, being the smartest, and actually seemed to form coherent thoughts and sentences. Most fish? Not quite such reliable sources of information. It wasn't until she'd spoken with several of the sea creatures that she her a whisper of a clue, the giant conch...
With renewed curiosity, Amphitrite swam towards the location of the conch. Poseidon had long tried to keep it a secret, but the woman was sneaky when she wanted to be and had found its location long ago.
What she found when she opened the conch shocked her... she was, apparently, unaware of what her husband was capable of...
