Myth Scene: Plotting the Downfall of Nike
Who: Poseidon and Hera What: Nike is sent to take a message to Troy during the war. Hera intervenes and sends Poseidon to stop her. Badness ensues. Where: Mt. Olympus When: During the Trojan War Rating: PG13 Status: complete
Hera watched as Nike, the winged bringer of Victory, prepared to carry hope to the Trojans.
The Trojans!
And that simply would not do. The girl must be stopped! Bad enough that bitch Aphrodite had won the apple (HER Apple, at that!), Hera would be damned before she allowed the pathetic, snot-nosed mortal who'd chosen the whore to win the war, too! Besides which, the Greeks were in the right! The whore had not only all but stolen Her Apple, she'd stolen King Menelaus of Sparta's wife in the process!
Hera had the utmost of sympathy for those with unfaithful spouses. She certainly commiserated with the pain and humiliation that went with it.
Quickly, she ran through her options to block the girl and her message, but knew she'd never succeed. She might postpone it a bit, but as soon as whatever inconvenience she managed to erect was overcome, the message would go forth, unchecked. She needed something more than a mere distraction.
Desperate, and hating it, she did the only thing she could think to do. Go to Poseidon. After all, he had as much reason to dislike the Trojans as she, and he was better positioned to stop Nike on her journey.
Decision made, she hurried from the throne room to Poseidon's chambers on Olympus. If she had any luck at all, he would not have left yet for his own underwater kingdom.
