Maggie Greene and Finnick
Finnick had been in the Capitol with squad 451. They had found an empty apartment to rest in after being attacked by the black goo and losing Boggs and the others. Despite his fear he'd gone to sleep when it was his turn to rest...and woken up here.
Where "here" was exactly he had no idea. Somehow he wasn't in the Capitol anymore. He was on a beach and his first thought was that he was back in District 4, but this wasn't his beach. It looked wrong, felt wrong, even smelled wrong. He walked down to the edge of the water and let the gentle waves break over his feet and ankles. The water was warmer than it ever was back home. He tasted it, and it was salty, so at least it was an ocean.
He opened the little plastic box and found the handheld device inside. He saw the message. "Tests and trials?" he said to himself. Was he back in the arena? Had he been captured and this was the Capitol's creative way of killing him, to put him in an arena for a third and final time? It didn't make much sense, but neither did anything else.
He got to the part about staying hydrated and found the canteen. He tasted it and the water seemed fresh and clean, though warm. Giving them water didn't seem like something the game makers would do. Finding water was usually part of the game.
His gun and trident were gone. He'd laid them aside when he went to sleep. But the knife he'd worn at his belt was still there. That wasn't the game makers usual practice either. You didn't arrive with weapons, not even a knife. They were usually in the cornucopia.
Finnick put the handheld in his pocket for now and slung the canteen over his shoulder and started walking down the beach. There was a wide flat part along the water, with lots of little sand dunes further back, and behind that, about a half mile away, a line of scrubby little trees. Lots of places for people to hide, he thought with dismay. He stayed in the open for now. Hopefully that way he'd see them coming.
After a while he heard a woman's voice. He walked towards her, not answering because he wanted to get a look at her first. Once he could see her he approached her carefully, stopping a good distance away in case she had throwing knives or other distance weapons. "Hello? I'm Finnick. Who are you?"
