Prompt: Santa
House and Wilson stood in the check out lane at the department store. Wilson looked cheerful as ever with a shopping cart in front of him with tons of presents for his family(and a few for House). House mumbled something incoherent about department stores and Santa, when Wilson turned his head and looked. It was November and there was Santa near the check outs with a line of children waiting to see him.
“It's November! It's too early,” Wilson said baffled.
“That's the whole point of Christmas: more money and earlier every year!” House said. “You Jews never understood the real meaning of Christmas.”
Wilson sighed. “I thought it was about the birth of Christ.”
“Nope. Wrong story. It's about a big jolly fat man in a red suit and presents.”
“And I never cease to wonder about your childhood.”
They moved a few inches in line. Wilson looked back at House and said,” I've always wanted to see Santa.”
House blinked. “Why?It's some old guy who you've never meant pretending to be some nostalgic figure of children. It's stupid.”
Wilson grinned. “When we used to go Hanukkah shopping I'd always ask my mom if I could see Santa-”
“-Oh, no. Sad childhood story time.”
“-And she'd always say no. One time I asked her why all the other kids got to go and I didn't. She said it was because I was Jewish and left it at that.”
House stepped out of line and pulled Wilson with him.
“Where are we going?” Wilson asked. “We were almost finished in line.”
“We're seeing Santa.”
They got a few looks as they got in line behind a mom and a whiny kid.
“Are they always this annoying?” Wilson whispered to House.
“Yes. I know I was.”
Wilson shrugged it off and left his shopping cart as they moved in line. There were only a few kids left to be seen before them. They waited and waited. Finally, it was House's turn.
“Aren't you two big boys?” the man pretending to be Santa said.
“Yeah, whatever.” House sat on the arm of the chair and whispered in Santa's ear. Santa looked at him and winked.
“I'm sure if you act right they will,” said Santa.
“Awesome. You next Wilson.”
House stood and moved to the side and let Wilson sit on the arm.
“And what would you like this year-uhhh?”
“James.”
“James. Anything special?”
Wilson looked at House and said, “You know what? I'm going to list everything I've ever wanted.”
So, House watched a Wilson listed things from toys to women to cars. House was actually smiling when Wilson finished and walked over to him.
“Did you have to list Angelina Jolie?”
“I've wanted her, so why not?”
They retrieved their shopping cart and got back in line at the cash registers.
“What did you ask Santa?” Wilson asked.
“I asked if I could get some from my best friend.”
Wilson's eyes bulged and then he smiled. “Maybe for Christmas.”
